At the end of our first day in Peru, we boarded a double-decker "sleeper" bus and rode overnight up into the mountains. When dawn broke, we had arrived in Ayacucho, a city of about 100,000, nestled in a valley surrounded by mountains. It was beautiful. In addition, we lucked out by getting a really nice hotel for our three-day stay (instead of a hostel). Even still, it was still relatively inexpensive, as is everything here in Peru. Here´s Jeela Manniapik looking out over the city from the hotel´s balcony. Here´s Jeela Manniapik of Pangnirtung looking out over the city from the hotel´s balcony.
After settling in, we were met by the local indigenous youth group who it turns out had planned three days worth of activities with us. They began by taking us to a local museum, then to a weaving centre run by local women, and finally to a stone carver´s shop.
In the evening, the local group took us out for dancing and kareoke. It was a great start to our stay!

Ayacucho is an amazing place. I didn´t think that this place and this trip would make such an impact on me. The people here just went above and beyond for us. Everybody we´ve met were so beautiful . .inside and out.
Shout out to mah little friend David that never gave up throat singing and tried so hard. . your awsome! haha.
The scenery is breath taking .. Mountains, buildings and everything were so different from what were used to seeing in Canada. The things you see and experience here make you appreciate the things that were used to .. things like phone, internet, hot water, food and everything. arrghh! I did not want to leave Ayacucho!
On our way to Lima, getting ready for our 10 hour bus ride to Lima .. the youth group came to the bus station. They were so sad to see us leave, and my heart broke a little bit because I didnt want to leave either. In the middle of the bus station they sang us songs about them going to miss us and how great it was to meet us. Then after that we sang and danced in the middle of the bus station .. where else do you get to do that kind of thing in a bus station? really?! nowhere!
Ayacucho .. I LOVE YOU!
